S/V Rainbow Gypsy is a Mexico based 1992 Dean 365 catamaran for sale by owner

An opportunity to buy a much sought after DeanCat 365 cruising “catamaran” presently located at Barra de Navidad, Mexico. The current owners are reluctantly selling due to ill health, having fulfilled their cruising dream. They have sailed over 30 000 miles, the long “wrong way” from Durban, South Africa via the Indian Ocean, SouthEast Asia, the Philippines, Hongkong, and the 5 000 mile crossing of the North Pacific via Japan, the Aleutian Islands, Alaska and Canada to the United States.

She is based on the design of the Prout Snowgoose Elite, built in South Africa in 1992. She is beautifully fitted with bespoke joinery, which has recently been revarnished throughout with all equipment in good working order. The equipment includes a Lowrance Chartplotter with chips for the whole world and Vespermarine AIS receiver and Furuno Radar.

She is safe and very easy to handle with upgraded rigging and new sails in excellent condition, all renewed by the current owners in 2014. All spares and tools come with the boat so she is “ready to go” with very little additional expense. The Deancat and the Prout are very low in the water with a low centre of gravity and have never been known to invert.

They can be very noisy, even at anchor with a constant slap of water under the hull. However, this Deancat is unique in that a small third hull has been added 12 inches into the water which has completely overcome this problem. The waterline has also been extended by nearly 2 feet, making each bow stem almost vertical and thereby forming a sacrificial front end. The net result is that she has gained almost a ton of buoyancy (like most small cruising cats she is overloaded) sailing so much better, gliding quietly through the water. Technically she is now a trimaran.

Internally she is virtually all on one level with only two steps down to the port and starboard hulls. This results in her being a lot larger than she appears from the outside. The galley is very big with ample storage space. Having 4 cabins, and a salon which seats 6 to 8 people in comfort, a large enclosed cockpit with a comfortable helmseat, she is ideal for a cruising couple with or without children.

The current owners are staying in the area and will be available to assist the new owners to become familiar with the various systems.
